INTRODUCTION

The Major Gordon Whisk(e)y Pals is an independent collectors and gentleman's club that exists of members of the Major A. A. Gordon Society. The Whisk(e)y Pals are about tasting (not drinking!) and collecting Scottish and Irish whisk(e)y's whose distilleries are located close to Major Gordon's hometown Bridge of Allan and the Gordon families native town of Strabane in Ireland as well as Major Gordon's wife roots in Cork.

What does it take to be a Major Gordon Whisk(e)y Pal? Well, you need to have above your interest for Major Gordon a passion for Scotland and Ireland first. A love or interest for whisk(e)y comes second and finally, you need to have good taste! The Major Gordon Whisk(e)y Pals are all gentleman who sees whisk(e)y tasting, not as a snobby or wealthy habit or hobby. As every Gentleman we try to persuade high standards for daily life, are generous, and support every chance of improvement (not perfection!).

TASTE OF THE MONTH

April 2021

This month each member had a taste of the LOCH LOMOND original Single Malt Scotch Whisky. This whisky is as many Loch Lomond whisky's matured in the finest American oak casks. The label states that the whisky has a hint of smoke and peat character.

Grading of the taste

It is the Pal's joint opinion that the pallet of the whisky is not satisfying with the description on the label. The peat flavor is not present and the whiskey gives a more smokey feeling. This gives the whisky a more dry taste.

History of the Loch Lomond whisky distillery

On each bottle of the Loch Lomond Original Single Malt Scotch Whisky and many others the date, 1814 is present. In 1814 the first Loch Lomond Distillery was established in the area of Tarbet (known as Tarbat). There is not much known of the old distillery of yore which only closed three years later.

In 1964 a new Loch Lomond distillery was founded by the current owners of the Littlemil Distillery. This time the distillery was located at Bowling (just a few miles from Glasgow). The first bottles came on the market the year after.
