Colonel William Eagleson Gordon

Colonel William Eagleson Gordon Major Gordon's older brother earned the Victoria Cross for his actions near Krugersdorp during the Second Boer War. Later, William arrived with the 1st Gordon Highlanders in France during the First World War outbreak and was taken prisoner at Le Cateau. In 1940, he got severely wounded while residing at the In & Out Club in London when a German aeroplane bombed Picadilly Square. He died several months later in hospital.

Major Archibald Alexander Gordon

Archibald Alexander Gordon is the prominent character on our website. Born in Bridge of Allan, he held many esteemed positions in Edinburgh after his world tour. In 1906 he took up his position as Private Secretary to the 4th Duke of Wellington. Emily Mackenzie Gordon

Emily nicknamed "Emmie" was Major Gordon's oldest sister. She married Adam Rimmer Black on 26 December 1890 and received three children. She died unexpectedly in 1909 in London.

Captain Robert Aaron Gordon

Major Gordon's younger brother served as a Captain in the Royal Scots in the Second Boer War. After his return, he resided in London, where he died after a brief illness in 1906.

Helen Isabelle Gordon

Helen Isabelle Gordon was Major Gordon's youngest sister. She married Graham Henry Whalley Nicholson and later received her two sons: General Sir Cameron Gordon Graham Nicholson and Brigadier Reginald Arran Graham Nicholson.

Colonel Ronald Eagleson Gordon

Colin Mackenzie Blair Gordon

Colin M. B. Gordon was the firstborn and only son of William Eagleson Gordon. Colin followed in his father's footsteps and enlisted in the Gordon Highlanders. On 19 August 1933, at Donneton Park, Colin was killed during a racing incident.

Valerie Gloria Jean Blair Gordon

Second born and only daughter of William Eagleson Gordon. She donated her father's Victoria Cross group to the Gordon Highlanders museum in Aberdeen.

William Hyde Eagleson Gordon

William was the twin son and Major Gordon's firstborn. William studied a Hileybury College and was commissioned in the 8th Gordon HIghlanders during the First World War. He served in France and got severely wounded on 27 September 1915 during the Battle of Loos. He died of wounds three days later and is buried at Etaples Military Cemetery.

Edmund Robert Adam Gordon

Edmund was Major Gordon's third born son. He studied with his older brother William at Haileybury College and enlisted in the 7th Seaforth Highlanders during the First World War. After losing his brother during the Battle of Loos, Edmund suffered from Jaundice and Neurostania. He recovered and returned to the front but was later injured. He survived the war but was later diagnosed with TBC and died in 1932.

Cameron Gordon Graham Nicholson

Firstborn of Major Gordon's youngest sister. Cameron joined in his father's footsteps and joined the British army. He received many decorations for bravery during the First and Second World Wars and was one of the commanders who defeated Erwin Rommel's Afrika Korps in the Kaserine Pass.

Reginald A. G. Nicholson

The younger brother of Cameron Nicholson. Reginald showed a keen interest in his uncle's (Major Gordon) history. He donated several family archive pieces to the Imperial War Museum, including a photo album with many of Major Gordon's souvenirs.

Cyril Vivian Eagleson Gordon

Son of Ronald Eagleson Gordon, Major Gordon's cousin. Cyril followed in his father's footsteps and joined the British military. He was twice awarded for bravery on the battlefield during the Second World War. He passed down Major Gordon's legacy to his children.
